Admission and Program Requirements

Application Deadlines:  
International applications – deadline no later than January 1, for a fall start date
Domestic applications – deadline no later than February 1, for a fall start date

The Master of Arts degree in Arts and Cultural Management is available only under Plan B (non-thesis). A total of 30 credits are required for the degree, and at least 15 credits must be at the 800-level. Students can choose from one of two concentrations: Museum Studies or Management as they relate to organizations such as: museums, galleries, theatres, performing art centers, and historic & cultural centers to name a few. 

Requirements for Admission to ACM:

  • Student’s Statement of purpose/letter of intent
  • Student’s Resume or curriculum vitae
  • 3 Professional Letters of Recommendation
  • Official Transcripts
  • One writing sample, in standard American English (SAE)
  • Non-native language proficiency test – ACM minimum TOEFL score requirement of 90
  • Portfolio that demonstrates professional experience related to arts and cultural management

IELTS Score Report Submission:

Hardcopies of official IELTS scores, in official envelopes, should be mailed by the
testing agency directly to the MSU department the international graduate applicant is
applying to OR the Office of Admissions.
Hardcopies of test scores, along with official envelopes, will be used by departments
and/or admissions staff to determine the official nature of the score reports. Envelopes
and score reports will be saved by admissions processing staff.
Please note that score reports uploaded to GAMS will be treated as unofficial unless
physical copies of official score reports and official envelopes have been received by
the Office of Admissions ­and deemed official.
